It seems that the developers behind Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher have landed themselves in a bit of an awkward situation as they have been hacked. In a tweet posted on CD Projekt Red’s account, the company has confirmed that they have fallen victim to a hack and had their internal systems breached and compromised. The company claims that their backups remain intact so whatever data that might have been deleted or modified are being restored. They are also reassuring gamers that the systems that were compromised did not contain any data belonging to gamers, so players won’t have to worry about their personal information being stolen.

The hackers are holding this data ransom and are threatening to release it online if their demands aren’t met. CD Projekt has stated in their statement that they do not intend to give in to the demands or negotiate with the hackers, and have already reached out to the relevant authorities, and have already taken steps to “mitigate the consequences of such a release”, whatever that may be.
