Hugh Grant typically wins over the opposite sex with his undeniable charisma in rom-coms like Noting Hill and Love Actually. In the first trailer for A24’s Heretic, Grant is the furthest thing from charming. Two young missionaries (Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher) looking to spread the word about the Church of Jesus Christ are delighted to speak with Mr. Reed (Grant), who invites the young girls into his house. What starts as a friendly conversation becomes a nightmare once Mr. Reed traps the girls inside his house. “I won’t keep you if you wish to leave,” Grant tells the missionaries, “but I want you to choose which door to go through based on your faith.” Mr. Reed writes “belief” on one door and “disbelief” on the second door. After walking through a door, the duo must escape the labyrinth created by Mr. Reed. Finding a way out won’t be easy in this cat-and-mouse thriller. Heretic is written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the duo who co-wrote A Quiet Place with John Krasinski. Beck and Woods are the directors of 2023’s 65, a dinosaur action film starring Adam Driver as an astronaut looking for a way home after crashing on Earth 65 million years ago. Producers of Heretic include Beck, Woods, Julia Glausi, Stacey Sher, and Jeanette Volturno. Besides Heretic, A24 has several horrors and thrillers on its upcoming release schedule. MaXXXine, the final film in Ti West’s slasher trilogy, bows in theaters on July 5, 2024. The Front Room, a psychological horror film from the Eggers brothers starring Brandy, hits theaters this September. Heretic opens in theaters on November 15, 2024. The literal cult of celebrity is explored in the official trailer for Opus, an upcoming thriller from A24.
The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri plays a young writer invited to the secluded compound of Moretti (John Malkovich), an international pop star who disappeared 30 years ago. Edebiri’s character learns that Moretti’s cult of diehard fans populates the compound. The more she investigates the compound, the more she learns about Moretti’s sinister plan.
“Is this not alarming to you?” a concerned Edebiri says to Juliette Lewis’ character. Opus’ ensemble features Rosario Dawson, Murray Bartlett, Amber Midthunder, Young Mazino, Stephanie Suganami, and Tony Hale. Noah Centineo is back in the spy game as he heads to South Korea for a new mission in the trailer for The Recruit season 2. “Mr. Hendricks, you seem to always need to be the hero,” Walter Nyland (Vondie Curtis-Hall) tells Owen (Centineo) before encouraging him to save the day. Owen’s new orders involve a trip South Korea, where he links up with Jang Kyun, played by Past Lives’ Teo Yoo. Jang Kyun is a South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent with his own agenda who reluctantly teams with Owen to form an uneasy partnership. The action-packed footage features Owen in several life-threatening situations, which he must fight his way out of. A deadly cyberattack rocks the country in the teaser trailer for Zero Day, an upcoming limited series coming to Netflix in 2025. “3,402 people died on Zero Day,” Robert De Niro’s President George Mullen says at the beginning of the teaser. As the former president, Mullen is charged with leading the Zero Day Commission, a special task force created to investigate a cyberattack that killed thousands.
