Project Bloom: everything we know so far

Game Freak is undoubtedly known first and foremost as the developer of almost every Pokemon game (outside of a few remakes and spinoffs). However, this team has made several non-monster-catching titles in the past and is now gearing up to make something very different. Currently known as Project Bloom, this new game is still very early on in its production cycle, but plenty of exciting details are out there. If you’re curious about what Game Freak has cooking outside of its most famous franchise, here’s everything we know about Project Bloom. We have only one clue as to when Project Bloom will be ready — and that’s quite a while from now. Aside from the lack of an official title being a big clue, Private Division, which is publishing the title, did state in the game’s announcement that “Project Bloom is in early development and does not yet have an announced release date. It is expected to launch during Take-Two’s Fiscal Year 2026.” Take-Two’s fiscal year ends in March, so that means, as of now, the game is expected to arrive sometime before March 31, 2026. Again, no concrete platforms are announced currently, but considering Project Bloom will be published by Private Division, it is almost certain that it will come to all consoles, such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Switch is also possible, but that’s too hard to call at this time. There are no trailers out yet, and just a single piece of concept art to tide us over. In it, we see a single swordsman, who appears to be a samurai, in a wooded area. This implies that it will be set in ancient Japan, but all we can do is speculate based on the lone image. Aside from that, the announcement did specify that it will be an action-adventure title, which is a big change from Game Freak’s normal turn-based RPGs. Aside from being some form of an action-adventure game, how Project Bloom will play is a complete mystery. If we had to guess based on a single piece of art, it will be a third-person action-adventure game, perhaps somewhat like Ghost of Tsushima, but again, this is all complete guesswork. Project Bloom is still waiting for a proper title, let alone a release date, so preorders are going to be quite a ways off. As we approach Take-Two’s fiscal year 2026 and preorder information comes out, you’ll be the first to know. We’re living in a golden age of classic franchises making a return. Games like Turok: Origins and Onimusha: Way of the Sword are bringing back cult-classic series that most fans never would have expected to get an upcoming video game release. Now, we can add Virtua Fighter 6 to that list. This used to be one of the best fighting games alongside Street Fighter and Tekken, but it hasn’t had a new entry in almost 20 years. It’s time to practice your low punches again as we run through everything we know about Virtua Fighter 6. We don’t know if we can put this game on our lists of upcoming PS5 games, upcoming Xbox Series X games, upcoming PC games, or upcoming Switch games yet, but they are otherwise fully fleshed out for your convenience.
Release window speculation Capcom has been firing on all cylinders for the past couple of years. They’ve given us some of the best PS5 games already, plus it has Resident Evil 9 and Monster Hunter Wilds as upcoming video games to which we’re looking forward. But there was one beloved series we never thought would make a comeback: Okami. This PlayStation 2 classic was a beautiful action-adventure game made by the now-defunct Clover Studio, whose former members went on to form PlatinumGames. However, not only has that studio been reborn as Clovers, but its first project is Okami 2, a direct sequel to the cult classic. Whether you’ve been waiting all these years for a sequel or this is your first time hearing about it, let’s go over everything we know so far about Okami 2. Release speculation When you look at the best PlayStation 5 games, or even a list of the best video games of all time, odds are you will see at least one game from developer Naughty Dog. Our list of upcoming video games was already stacked prior to The Game Awards 2024, but the last announcement of the night added one more to the list that might beat out other heavy hitters like Ghost of Yotei and Wolverine. As this is coming from Naughty Dog, this is already one of our most anticipated upcoming PS5 game, but others might need more convincing. We took out a bounty on all the information there is on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and this is what we came up with. If you don’t have a PS5, there are plenty of upcoming Xbox Series X, upcoming PC, and upcoming Switch games, too.
