Dino Crisis is making a comeback next week thanks to PS Plus

It’s finally here: 1999’s Dino Crisis is coming to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers for free on October 15. This underrated Capcom classic helmed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami involves some sort of … dinosaur crisis. It’s a survival horror action game (with guns for shooting dinosaurs and puzzles) that’ll feel familiar for retro Resident Evil fans. You will have to get the most expensive PS Plus tier to play it since it’ll be in the Classics catalog, but it’s a bit of a remaster, with up-rendering, custom video filters, rewind, and quick save. There hasn’t been a Dino Crisis game since 2003, but it’s beloved for being just of the moment. It came on the heels of a decade full of Jurassic Park entries and knockoffs and multiple successful Resident Evil entries, so it’s very of that era. But with Resident Evil remakes doing well with both critics and players, and Capcom releasing Exoprimal, which is in many ways a Dino Crisis spiritual successor, maybe it’s time to give Dino Crisis a try. Sony announced during its September State of Play that Dino Crisis, along with Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain, would be launching to its subscription service. There is no date for this Legacy of Kain game addition just yet, although Sony said it would happen “soon” There are even more horror games coming on October 15 that are perfect for the spooky season. Fans of Supermassive Games’ The Dark Pictures Anthology are getting another addition this month with The Devil in Me, while Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed from IllFonic, a studio known for licensed horror games, is set to possess the platform. And if you want something a more gory, Dead Island 2 brings you to Los Angeles to deal with a zombie outbreak. However, if you’re here because you want to play Dino Crisis, PlayStation is also adding the PlayStation 2 survival horror game Siren to the Classics catalog. This game from the director of the original Silent Hill has gotten the same upgrades as Dino Crisis, so up-rendering, custom video filters, rewind, and quick save capabilities. You can check out the full list of PS Plus additions below. They’ll all be on the service October 15. Subscribers can claim any game to keep. PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium PlayStation Premium (PS VR2 and Classics) Halloween is next week, so you should get in the mood for it by playing some spooky games. Thankfully, several horror titles came to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog this month. From horror classics for the PS1 and PS2 to newer games with more modern storytelling and choose-your-own-adventure sensibilities, PS Plus subscribers will have a lot to choose from when they’re looking for something to play this weekend. These are three newer highlights that fit that bill.
Dino Crisis
State of Play | September 24, 2024 [ENGLISH] While Resident Evil is Capcom’s flagship survival horror game series, it’s not the only one they’ve ever had. There was also Dino Crisis, a horror game that swaps out the zombies for dinosaurs. While this series ended after three games and faded into obscurity, Capcom is finally acknowledging it again with a PS Plus re-release of the first game. I’m happy it did this, as the game is worth revisiting in 2024. If you can get used to its dated tank controls and menu design, you have a really solid and surprisingly cinematic retro horror game that deserves more love than it gets. If you’ve never tried Dino Crisis before, this Halloween gives you the perfect opportunity to do so. Dino Crisis is available on PS4 and PS5 as part of the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog.
Siren
Siren – Gameplay Video 1 | PS2 on PS4 It’s the middle of the month, so another batch of games just came to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog. There’s a solid mix of scary games here just in time for Halloween and hidden gems in the PS4, PS5, and PSVR2’s libraries that are well worth your time. If you’re wondering what you should play this weekend, I can safely say that you’ll have a good time with any of these three games.
Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 – Extended Gameplay Reveal [4K Official] It can be hard for zombie games to stand out because so many exist. Dead Island 2 had the benefit of being infamous because it was constantly delayed and shifting developers during development. It finally launched almost seven years after its initial announcement. Despite those development woes, Dambuster Studios and Deep Silver’s Dead Island 2 is a surprisingly solid action game. It stands out because of its particularly satisfying melee combat and extraordinarily detailed dismemberment system. Dead Island 2 is a fitting game to play ahead of Halloween and definitely the headliner for October’s batch of PS Plus additions. PlayStation Plus already kicked off September with Harry Potter’s Quidditch Champions and MLB The Show 24, but the service is getting a bunch of amazing indies in the second half of the month — including one that’s caught the eye of many players thanks to its unique visual style. The Plucky Squire from All Possible Futures and Devolver Digital is the headliner for the latest PlayStation Plus catalog announcement. It’ll be offered starting on its launch date, September 17, along with the rest of the games on the list. It’s about the eponymous plucky squire Jot and his friends, storybook characters who have to jump across our three-dimensional world to defeat the evil villain Humgrump. It’s an action-adventure game with combat, puzzles, and platforming challenges, and it feels fresh thanks to its combination of 2D and 3D animation, which you can see for yourself in the adorable trailer below.
